I think I'm starting to pick up an accent from all of this English life! Well, the accent maybe not so much but living like a true Brit has definitely been working its magic on me!
The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful group of friends here at Sussex, all of whom live in my flat and the adjacent buildings and all of which are girls who share my same interests and passions: love for the Lord, good food, adventures, history, exploring quaint buildings and gardens, and most of all--all who love to seek out and enjoy God's wonderful gifts around us to the fullest!
Today, 1 Timothy 6:17 was reaffirmed for each of us:
"...[do not] fix [your] hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy"
The saying, "the best things in life are free" might be on to something, because you truly cannot put a price on friendship, sunshine, smiles, and memories.
My fun friend Erica planned the day out wonderfully for this happy group of eight lovely ladies!
With a mix of UCLA and UCSD girlies, we all clicked right away in Bible Study and jumped at the opportunity to take an outing together!
We caught a bus from school into Lewes (pronounced Loo-is) in the morning to arrive into town just in time for a delightful English breakfast at one of Lewes' favorite cafes, Laporte's.
Between the eight of us, we had the whole spectrum covered: warm and fluffy french toast with blueberry puree, farm yoghurt and muesli, English breakfast on a bap (a big white bread roll), and a croissant with a veggie sausage and sauteed portobello mushrooms for myself. All we were missing from the traditional British breakfast was some baked beans, fried tomatoes, and fried bread!
After breakfast, we were absolutely delighted to find that the famous Lewes Farmer's Market was in full swing--what perfect timing for these food loving ladies! We wandered, we tasted, we oohed and awed at all the gorgeous treats and we tried our fair shares of cheeses, jellies, jams, olive oils, and fruits to our hearts contents!
Mmmmmmmmmm my favorite :)
This pie stand reminded me of my amazing roommate Olivia who I am sure could open up an equivalent and equally knock out pie company!
These two girls love our farmer's markets!

Ain't we cute?! ;)
Wandering the town, we made our way to the city walls and old castle....so awesome!
Ahhhhh, too cute :) And look at the countryside behind!
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
~Psalm 18:2~
Fun fact, this was where Thomas Paine lived and wrote during the American Revolution. At that time, Lewes was a town with a tradition of opposition to the monarchy and pro-republican sentiments going back to the revolutionary decades of the 17th century. Quite an appropriate location for this English-American journalist and activist!
A group of girls fawning over a puppy....no surprises here ;)
Walking along the castle walls, we discovered so many cute little photo opps that were just too adorable to pass up!

One of the most fun parts of Lewes were all of the bright and festive doors throughout!
An "Emily Sandwich!"
To finish off the day, we toured the house of Anne of Cleves, one of the wives of King Henry VIII. I had forgotten her story and we all had a giggle at how blatant the museum painted her: "she was famously disliked by the King upon meeting"
Though she never lived here, the house itself was a neat glimpse into 15th century English life!
Conclusion of the day: Lewes is a gem, wandering through towns is the best way to explore, English food gets a solid "thumbs up" and a day with sweet friends and sunshine is unbeatable!
And so concludes weekend #2, can't wait for next weekend in Florence with my dearest friend
Kenzie Kaper and cousin Erik!
